Drink Chenin Blank Day: A Few Good Reasons to Comply by Sonja Zant

When I first moved to the California Wine Country, everything about wine was new to me.

I knew I liked red wines more than whites, yet I didn’t even have a favorite red to speak of. I usually just drank what Lou picked out for me, and if you’ve ever had a wine from the Crush Collection, then you know Lou has a pretty good track record for picking tasty wines!

But about two years into my life here in Sonoma, I had my first experience with this white wine with a pretty name: Chenin Blanc. The name was my first impression, but it was the color that drew me in. I hadn’t seen a white wine with such a pale color, and so the first time someone shared a glass with me, I was eager to experience what promised to be a refreshing wine that would taste as light and soft as it looked.

Let me just say…

I was not disappointed!

Everything about my first experience with a Chenin Blanc was blissful and memorable. It went down with this kiss of kindness and I recall feeling so thankful for the experience. I won’t embarrass myself by trying to teach you something about this wine — because Lou & Mere are so much better at that kind of stuff than I am.

But I will tell you that when a wine holiday comes along with a rather demanding name like “Drink Chenin Blanc Day,” the tendency might be to take a pass. In a world where people are always telling each other what to do and what not to do, I wouldn’t blame you one bit if you decided not to comply!

However, if you do decide to open up a bottle of Chenin Blanc today, I for one believe it will be worth it — especially if you share the wine with someone you like!

Here’s to you and Chenin Blanc!

Cheers!
