Summer Grilling Reds Tasting Notes, by Team Major Crush

We love to grill, and we know you do, too! So this line-up of crush-worthy reds is all about gathering people together for some good times -- and good eats!

Viszlay 2013 Zinfandel (2 Bottles)

Selected by our very own Mr. Zin, this 2013 vintage is one of those wines you know has the ability to please red wine lovers across the board. The fruit-forward notes of this classic Russian River Zin are so satisfying. Look for those beautiful notes of holiday spices like clove, as well lush fruit flavors of strawberry and boysenberry. This Zin falls on the sweeter side of the range of a well-made Zin, which makes it incredibly easy to pair with foods. One of the reasons Lou loves a good Zin so much is because it’s the kind of wine that holds a meal and a good conversation together — which is exactly what we need when you're hosting a Springtime gathering!

2018 La Puerta Alta Malbec (2 Bottles)

Some things are just worth repeating and this Malbec is a perfect example. Or in a wine tasting room, we’d say we want to re-visit this wine. There’s really no better expression of this varietal. Grown at a very high altitude, this wine is loaded with flavor and tastes like dark cherries. Some of you may be lighting up your grill again, and if so this wine pairs with anything off the grill!

2017 Orinda Hayes Cabernet Sauvignon (1 Bottle)

Alluring aromas of ripe blueberries, black cherry, star anise, baking spices, and minerality make this Orinda Hayes Cabernet Sauvignon the perfect choice for people who are new to the world of wine, as well as seasoned wine drinkers who are seeking the enjoyment of a well-made Cab. This Cab can pair with the obvious red meat choices, or with a vegetarian dish — like grilled Portobello mushrooms — with amazing results!

2017 Pivot Cabernet Sauvignon (1 Bottle)

We’re hypnotized by this wine’s black fruit aromas and flavors of blackberry and plum, along with its vanilla and herbal notes that add complexity. This wine is full body and lingers on the palate long after it’s been sipped. Like many red wines it will benefit from at least 30 minutes of decanting. This wine is perfect to serve with a filet or a charcuterie plate.

2019 Blank Wines Red Blend (2 Bottles)

This wine is bursting with black fruits, like blackberry, blueberry, and dark cherry with hints of vanilla and mocha. The velvety texture makes it melt in your mouth!Enjoy this with everything from a grilled steak to dark chocolate!

2018 Parables in Red Pinot Noir (1 Bottle)

This is a Sonoma Coast Pinot and every sip has beautiful nuances of dark red fruits (like dark cherries and raspberries) and that classic finish found in well-made Pinots that’s often described as strawberries on silk. The wine is light enough to serve with appetizers and is delicious with grilled salmon.

2015 Verveine Grenache (1 Bottle)

This biodynamic wine showcases how a Grenache can be light body while still having a depth of flavors that linger on the palate.Cranberry, raspberry, and dried cherry plus floral and earthy notes make this wine complex and well-balanced.It’s a food-friendly wine that pairs well with fish, meats, and, if served slightly chilled will complement a spicy dish.

2011 Front Porch Syrah (1 Bottle)

This is not a Syrah for the faint of heart! Front Porch produced an elegant 100% Syrah from the 2011 vintage. One of Syrah's most beautiful characteristics is its color; the deep purple hues of this wine are sure to make your mouth water. First your nose is met with abundant aromas of blackberries and hints of earthiness. Followed by plum and savory notes on the palate. Our Syrah pairs perfectly with a hearty steak or lamb chop if you're feeling adventurous!
